Burn Baby Burn|Charlotte weather
April 29th, 2010 categories: Charlotte Living
I’m not talking about disco dancing; I’m talking about the hot Charlotte weather of summer! The Charlotte area offers a number of places to splash around and cool down when it feels like you’re burning up.
Ray’s Splash Planet is located Uptown at 215 N Sycamore St. It’s a one-of-a-kind water park filled with amusement features for the kids as well as a state of the art fitness center with an aerobics and dance room, cardiovascular theater, free weights, and resistance equipment. Since the water park is owned and operated by the Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation department, there is a discount on admission and memberships for Mecklenburg County residents.
One of the most popular spots, the U.S. National White Water Center is located west of 485 and easily accessible by taking 85. We’re proud of our Charlotte white water rafting center as it is the home of the largest man-made re-circulating river in the world. You can enjoy a safe and exciting rafting adventure through non-stop class II-IV whitewater rapids year round. The various courses are for rafters starting as young as 8 years-old no matter what the level of skill. There’s more to do at the center as well: climbing (guided routes only), flatwater kayaking, mega zip, climb 2 zip, eco trekking and mountain biking.
How would you like to live near the US National White Water Center? There are plenty of beautiful homes available in the area! Now is the time to secure that Charlotte waterfront property you’ve been dreaming of. Kids are almost out of school and it’s time to plan vacations, welcome relatives from out of town, and entertain bored teenagers. What better way to do it all than on the water and near the Charlotte White Water Center?
For instance, the lower end of our price range finds a ranch style three bedroom, two bathroom home with approximately 1,900 square feet of living space, 1¾ acres of land on the water for just $169,000! Along with a beautiful Charlotte real estate view, it has all the amenities you would want in a home or vacation home: cable prewire, ceiling fan(s), dishwasher, electric dryer hookup, electric range/oven, microwave, refrigerator, ceramic tile flooring, laminated flooring, and breakfast area. 124 Pope Lake RD
Next is another ranch style home with two bedrooms and one full bathroom. This home is slightly smaller but the extras are incredible! A gorgeous deck has been built onto the back to overlook the fenced in yard extending out to the water and the floating dock. A very nice retaining wall has been built up with attractive rocks and the yard is well maintained. At just $299,900 you will love this bungalow on the water! 535 Lake Wylie Rd
Next is a luxurious three bedroom, two bathroom Lake Wylie waterfront home. It features a dock with a gazebo, a covered boat slip, and a private boat ramp. There’s a magnificent free standing stone fireplace, custom tile, and the kitchen has seen many updates. This home has been designed to enjoy the beautiful lake views. For $450,000 you’ll have the perfect vacation home you’ve always wanted, or the weekend getaway place, or your dream-year-round-waterfront-living-castle! 276 Ellington RD
A little bit closer to the White Water Center and rising up the ladder in size and amenities is a home with four bedrooms, four and one half bathrooms, and approximately 4,000 square feet of heated living space. This Charlotte home has a finished basement, so when you’re coming in from the gazebo off the pier after docking the boat, you can leave behind the wetsuits and towels before heading up to the main house! A finished deck off the main floor covers the ground level providing a covered patio area that runs the length of the home. One half of an acre provides plenty of space to divide properties and keep neighbors from being too close. For $775,000 you’ll have a wide open view of the lake and plenty of space for your boat, Jet Ski, canoe, and any other water toys! 3120 Channel View Landing
Cooling off in the summer heat isn’t too hard to do in the Charlotte area, especially if you buy right. Living Charlotte waterfront in this economy can happen for less than you think. There’s no reason to burn when you can splash instead!

There is No Place Like HOME-Charlotte, NC
March 25th, 2010 categories: Buying your Home, Charlotte Living, Great Neighborhoods
There’s no place like home! Happiness is found in your own backyard! You don’t have to go far to find adventure!
Sure, these are clichés, but when you look around the City of Charlotte, you’ll see that we really don’t have to go far to find fun and adventure! Especially when you do a little sniffing around…
Getting some fresh air and clearing out the lungs in Charlotte is easier than you might think. We can celebrate the flora and the fauna here just as well as they do in the mountains. Enjoying the green ways of our city is more than just walking a trail, each park area is unique and has something to offer. Take the Pineville-Matthews road area where you can find the William R. Davie park. This park is just one of the many amenities that make South Charlotte so desirable. The Davie Dog park is located here, along with a basketball court, four softball fields, a lake, a playground, two soccer fields (one natural turf, one artificial), restrooms and covered area, a volleyball court, and much more are available for our enjoyment. If you’re looking for just a quick in-and-out entrance to the green way so you can run, walk your dog,
or ride your bicycle, there are a few parking areas in South Charlotte, too. The lower McAlpine Creek, McMullen Creek, and Four Mile Creek Green ways have spots at: 11817 Johnston Rd., 8135 Pineville-Matthews Rd., and near the Shoppes at Piper Glen. These are all super easy to Google map. However, be aware that parking is not allowed in the lot at the shopping center for park goers. There is a great deal of on-street parking available. (I also suggest parking at the Rea Rd. library and walking to the greenway if needed. Their lot to the far right is never completely full.)
The Queen City has so much to offer its residents that we often forget to take advantage of the things that are right under our noses! Especially the programs and services that our tax dollars are contributing toward (grant money also rounds out the budgets). For instance, did you know that the Parks and Recreation Department sponsors wine tasting trips for retirees and active seniors? On Saturday, March 23rd, is the N.C. Winery Tour. Active senior adults will visit the Shelton Winery and the Childress Winery. You can purchase your own lunch at the Shelton Vineyards Restaurant, or you are invited to pack your own picnic lunch. The outing is just $49 per person. The transportation takes place aboard a comfortable, luxury motor coach, which departs at 7:00 a.m. and returns at 6:00 p.m. Contact Michelle Hitselberger or call (980) 722-2251 for more information or to sign up.
Now, on the opposite side of the age spectrum, kids can have the chance to boogie-oogie-oogie, through the NCDT REACH program. This dance program is for children ages 8-10, through the North Carolina Dance Theatre. It offers classes in ballet and “world dance forms,” and it includes the necessary dance attire and the kids get tickets to NC Dance Theater performances, free of charge! This is an excellent way to develop an interest in theater and dance in your youngsters. Not only will they learn dance steps, but professional dancers will inspire the children as they learn! Auditions for the fall program are held in August with classes beginning in September. For more information contact April Berry at 704.372.0101 x109 or aberry@ncdance.org.
Don’t forget to take advantage of what you can find in your own backyard! You can save gas, time, and money by enjoying the beautiful green ways of South Charlotte. Plus, check the websites of our local government departments like the Parks and Recreation site. You never know what you’ll find right under your nose!

92. Hart Witzen Gallery – Charlotte’s Hart Witzen is a privately owned, self sustaining arts venue supported through rental of the gallery and artist studios allowing Hart Witzen to function as an alternative space not dependent on government grants nor subject to the artistic opinions of others. Some of the most original artwork in the area can be seen here. Home to Rhonda’s husband Michael’s 2002 art exhibit Qui. A mutual appreciation for each others’ work, complimentary styles and a conversation about the color pink has led to emerging artists Dina Lowery and Michael Morgan Gibbons work simultaneously on two separate canvases switching the canvases periodically to work on each others painting. Completed paintings are unique exhibiting the style, inspiration and signatures of two artists. (here’s a sample)
91. NC Racing Auto Hall of Fame located in Mooresville NC, this Racing Hall of fame annually inducts new members and is available for touring year round.
90. Dale F. Halton Theater – At Central Piedmont Community College’s Dale F. Halton Theater, education meets entertainment. Catch theater, music and dance productions on a stage worthy of the world’s great artists. Charlotte has had more than its share of, strong, successful and influential women. Dale Halton is one of the icons — might call her the Queen of Pepsi here in Charlotte!

95. McColl Center for Visual Arts – The center supports an active artist in residence program and their works can be
viewed by the public. The Center also offers lectures and artists forums.
I think we’ve all visited the McColl center during gallery crawls — always an eclectic display and one of Charlotte’s most intriguing architectural landmark. Originally built in 1926, McColl Center for Visual Art is located in a former Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. In 1995, Bank of America acquired the church for and deftly, beautifully transformed the burned out reamins of the church! — you have to see it to believe it!

94. Queens Landing – Experience a day of fun on beautiful Lake Norman, where the possibilities are endless. Conveniently located 30 minutes north of Charlotte, we have so many things to do that you’ll have to keep coming back. You can reach us by car or boat. Whether you’re enjoying Lake Norman in your own boat, or meeting friends for lunch at Jack’s Lakeside Grill everyone loves lake Norman! Don’t forget to check out The Catawba Queen our replica Mississippi River Boat. We can safely say we ALL have had wonderful times on Lake Norman — and becauce Charlotte’s weather is perfect plan on enjoying the lake from April to October! Who knows you might be so smitten you’ll end up buying a home on Lake Norman –you wouldn’t be the first!

93. Lowes Motor Speedway Over the Wall Tour - (photos courtesy Harold Hinson) At the center of the excitement is Lowe’s Motor Speedway, one of the country’s premier racing facilities which hosts three NASCAR Nextel Cup events each year as well as other motorsports races and various car shows. The Speedway’s Over the Wall Tour is a fun behind-the-scenes tour which allows visitors to get a close-up look at the garage, travel down pit road, and even drive around the Speedway’s infamous 1.5 mile oval with 24 degree banks. Over the Wall tours are just $5 and well worth the cost to experience driving along the Speedway. For Five Bucks, This is a special tour but then everything about NASCAR and Lowes Speedway is special, loud and fast – pass the chicken!
