Sizzling Charlotte Real Estate Deals!

July 16th, 2010 categories: Charlotte Real Estate Deals

Some of the most recommended and sought after Charlotte communities are Myers Park, Dilworth, Cotswold, NoDa, South Park, and Charlotte condos uptown. I personally like the convenience of living in South Park Charlotte. I find it interesting that in the heart of Charlotte where these stable Charlotte communities exist it is quite hard to convince a Charlotte newcomer why they are so special. Eventually they will appreciate the  mature trees,  sidewalks, convenience, ice cream trucks, and friendly Charlotte neighbors. and these are just a few reasons. Still, newcomers quite often still go for the commute for the newer larger homes far away. I love the old charming Charlotte architecture and the feeling of a neighborhood especially in Myers Park and South Park.

Here are a few Charlotte properties to tease you with dramatic price reductions!

1966 Maryland Ave MLS 929766 (Myers Park property)

Myers Park real estateThis Myers Park charming property is as cute as it can be, and on one of the prettiest streets in Charlotte. With over 4,500 sq ft, 6 bedrooms and 5  1/2 baths, this home has room for a large family. Decorated and decked out to the max. 1966 Maryland was originally listed for $1,389,000 and now has been reduced nearly 25% to $1,099,000. Still a high dollar home but a lot for your money! Best of all it has a hard to find Mother- in-Law or nannies suite in the basement!

Someone please give this home some Charlotte LOVE!

Gimme a Break, Please!

May 15th, 2010 categories: Charlotte Living

Have you already had your fill of turkey, dressing , and ham for this holiday season?  Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa are just passed  so why not  live on the wild side and try something new.  I suggest that you try an ethnic restaurant to add some flavor to your palate.  Dilworth, a Charlotte community south of Uptown, has several options to give you that much desired break from turkey overload.

  • The Kabob Grill,  which is on East Boulevard, offers “exquisite Middle Eastern cuisine.”  In addition to mouth watering kabob entrees, the Kabob Grill offers spicy appetizers and savory salads.  My daughter is a big fan of their pita bread which is replenished often during your meal.  In addition to the tasty food, maybe you will enjoy watching the rhythmic movements of a belly dancer.  A belly dancer performs at the Kabob Grill every weekend evening.
  • Thai Taste is another option for ethnic food.  Thai Taste is also located on East Boulevard.  It provides typical Thai cuisine that’s inexpensive yet delicious.  There are also Thai Taste locations in Matthews and the University area.  Thai Taste deems itself “Charlotte’s first and best Thai restaurant.”  It’s packed during weekday lunchtime so it’s a favorite for working folks in the area.
  • Greek Isles is a restaurant located on East Bland Street in the Dilworth community. It offers authentic Greek cuisine including Greek salads, seafood dishes, and other Greek specialties.  The decor of the restaurant is authentic as well including many columns and statutes which exhibit Greek architecture.
  • And don’t forget to check out Mac’s Speed Shop for the most awesome BBQ and people watching!!

Now, that you’ve tried something a little different, your break is over and you may now return to your regularly scheduled day.  I hope that you enjoyed that brief interruption.

For What it’s Worth – Dilworth! One of Charlotte’s Charming Neighborhoods!

May 1st, 2010 categories: Charlotte Living, Great Neighborhoods

YouTube Preview Image

Many folks moving from the North often imagine the South as the old antebellum plantations they’ve seen in movies like: Gone with the Wind, The Patriot, and Song of the South. However, when these transplants come to Charlotte, what they find is a modern metropolis filled with brand new homes or Historic homes that have been renovated to meet the demands of the 21 Century. There are some areas where the space to own a plantation sized stretch of property is available but those are only found far out of the outskirts of Charlotte. If one wants to buy an Historic home with the flavor of an era gone by within the city of Charlotte and in Mecklenburg County, there are a few of neighborhoods to choose from that will provide close proximity to Uptown, albeit without the benefit of a plantation.

Dilworth is one of those neighborhoods. Beautiful tree lined streets, gorgeous gardens, plenty of parks close by, and traditional-style homes everywhere you Kids in Parklook. Understanding a bit of Dilworth’s history can help one truly appreciate its glory. This is one of Charlotte’s oldest neighborhoods. Established in the late 1800’s by Edward Dilworth Latta, Mayor F.B. McDowell, and other residents who hoped to benefit from the surge of workers who were working in the textiles industry that was moving into Charlotte; Dilworth was developed as a suburb of Charlotte. These investors wanted to sell lots and homes to the city’s growing industrial work force. However, they also wanted to sell homes and properties to the upper crust of society, so they began to develop another section of the suburb just for the wealthiest of citizens who could afford the most expensive homes the investors could sell.

In order to make the Dilworth area more attractive to this upper echelon of society, the investors wanted to put in place a street car mode of transportation. They also decided to construct a recreational area, which they dubbed, Latta Park. A lake was constructed at the end of the trolley line for boating, plus a peaceful lily pad pond, fountains, flower gardens, as well as paths and drives throughout. Later additions included a football field and grandstand, a bicycle racetrack, a horse-racing course, a baseball diamond, and a summer theater. (Visit http://www.cmhpf.org/educationneighhistdilworth1.htm for more information and more history about Dilworth!)

So, now that you know a little about the Dilworth of yesterday let’s take a look at the Dilworth of today!

400 Park Ave is an iconic residence with four bedrooms and four bathrooms, approximately 4,700 square feet of living space, and a guest suite with a separate entrance. The first floor is very open and free flowing between the kitchen, dining, and living areas. Every bedroom has a full bathroom and you’ll find at least one powder room on the first floor. The media room’s balcony has a gorgeous city view. The back of the home is an Italian style courtyard. Listing price:$1,250,000, MLS #931035

2131 Dilworth Rd is a beautiful home built in 1929 on one of Dilworth’s most desirable streets. In 2001, this property was completely remodeled and renovated with absolutely no detail overlooked! This charming two story home with a hard to find basement offers a spacious master bedroom with walk in closets, a first floor guest room, a huge kitchen, flexible living areas, and fabulous floors throughout. The screened in porch and covered rear porch provide more additional living area to the already incredibly ample approximate 3,300 square feet of living space. This home is priced to sell at just $899,900. MLS #855806.

748 Ideal WAy748 Ideal Way is ready for you to move in! This custom home backs up to the greenway so there will never be any construction going on behind you, and you’ll always have wild life and park life at your back door! The open floor plan features three levels with, high ceilings, an unfinished basement, and an oversized two car garage. Lovely details like moldings and hardwood floors throughout make this home warm and inviting. Custom touches say, “class” like the granite countertops and stainless steel appliances in the gourmet kitchen, as well as the solid custom cabinets. The master bedroom is oversized, the great room is and pre-wired for surround sound, and the whole home sits on almost 1/2 acre in the heart of Dilworth! Priced at only $750,000. MLS #861171.

For what it’s worth, the imagination of what so many think the South is like can be found in a small way when you travel to our historic areas. While the plantations might not surround some of the homes in Dilworth or the other historic neighborhoods surrounding Charlotte; the homes and the neighborhoods still embrace the tradition of the charming Southern genteelism. Beautiful tree lined streets, gorgeous and stately homes with gardens and parks nearby, all with the modern conveniences of the 21st Century.
